What is Sustainable Development?

Sustainable Development is widely accepted as “ 'development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” . There are three main areas of sustainable development and they are:

Environmental

This activity focuses in on how ‘green’ an organisation is. How effectively we minimise & manage waste, careful use of natural resources & consider how to offset our carbon footprint.

Economic

Key themes of sustainable economic development include building business competitiveness; attracting & retaining inward investment; maintaining / enhancing environmental quality; creating 21st Century Skills; economic inclusion & social infrastructure

Social

The last area to be incorporated within the sustainable development agenda; this is a key consideration for urban regeneration. Development that is socially sustainable ensures that major regeneration projects do not simply ‘gentrify’ inner city areas such as Camden but offer up a mixed tenure of projects that are inclusive and meet the needs of the whole community.

What is CTN doing?

CTN has benefited from initial environmental training as part of its involvement with the Pan-London 2 ESF programme managed by Ecotec on behalf of the London Learning & Skills Council.

We are now underway on our journey to make CTN a sustainable organisation.

One of the milestones for this project is the production of a sustainable development action plan so it has allowed us the opportunity to turn our attention to this area and support the creation of a plan that allows CTN to truly consider how it becomes sustainable in all its activities.

We have drafted our Sustainable Development Action Plan and a copy of our plan can be found here.
